National Health Center Week
Recently, we are celebrated our clinic partners as part of National Health Center Week, many of whom have been key partners to PANOW since its inception two decades ago. While we know more Oregonians have coverage than even 5 years ago, we also know this doesn’t mean ACCESS to care. We are eager to keep working with our safety net partners to improve access including navigation support and education for emerging new Medicaid benefits like climate, food, and housing.
Thank you, partners, for your work as a vital safety net in our community, providing primary health care to those with few other options!
Client Story
Recently, Project Access NOW provided financial assistance for an extreme home cleaning service. Anna's small home was covered in years' worth of debris, causing a risk to her health. Anna's worsening health and isolation had been exacerbated by the state of her home, and she had been unable to access the kitchen, causing abdominal pain and gastrointestinal distress. Support from Project Access Now helped get the home back to a livable condition, encouraging Anna to seek prolonged assistance moving forward.
Project Access NOW is proud to support those in need with holistic care and services, ensuring our region continues to move toward health equity and a comprehensive understanding of the social determinants of health.
Policy Updates
Oregon Health Authority new Strategic Plan
Our President and CEO, Carly Hood-Ronick, was invited to join the Oregon Health Authority this month during their new Strategic Plan announcement press conference, highlighting the decade-long successful partnership between PANOW and OHA. We're excited for many more years of partnership in serving Oregonians in need with OHA!
Joint Task Force on Hospital Discharge Challenges
Project Access NOW has been supporting Oregon hospital systems with social care coordination for individuals in need discharging from inpatient and emergency room settings since 2015. This month, PANOW submitted public comment to the Oregon legislature's Joint Task Force on Hospital Discharge Challenges, encouraging the Task Force to consider a model for hospitals in Oregon that outsources and centralizes social care coordination to a community entity, allowing hospital staff to focus on patient care.
Partner Feature
Project Access NOW works with community partners like Blanchet House and Farm to provide navigation services that help community members connect with housing, climate devices, food, and other supports.
Says Executive Director Scott Kerman, "Having Project Access NOW as a partner has opened up a new avenue of possibilities for our community, ensuring members not only have access to health-related benefits but also know how to use them."
