Client Story

A recent client expressed deep gratitude for a team member's exceptional support in securing essential health insurance.

"I entered this phone call scared to death that I wouldn’t qualify for any assistance with healthcare. Max guided me through the entire process, adjusted some of my miscalculations and discovered that I qualified for tax credits and that my daughter qualified for Medicaid. At the end of the phone call, I was crying with relief and so thankful that Max was able to help me."

PANOW is live with supporting HRSN Housing Benefit

We're thrilled to announce that PANOW, in collaboration with CareOregon, is actively working on HRSN Housing benefit procurement and associated navigation!

Currently, PANOW is supporting both of the 1115 waiver benefits that went live, climate and housing!

Why it matters:

  • By providing stable housing, we can prevent individuals from entering the cycle of homelessness and improve their overall well-being.
  • A stable housing solution benefits not only the individual but also the entire community.

Together, we can make a difference.

Mark's Data Corner

Meet Mark, Project Access NOW's Reporting and Data Analyst. Each month, Mark will be sharing the most interesting piece of data he came across that month.

Utility Assistance: A Lifeline for Vulnerable Communities

For low-income individuals with health conditions, access to reliable utilities is a critical component of well-being. Without adequate heating, cooling, or electricity, these individuals may face severe health risks, including respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular problems, and mental health issues.

Utility assistance programs provide essential support by helping low-income families pay their energy bills. These programs not only alleviate financial stress but also contribute to improved health outcomes, reduced hospitalizations, and increased overall quality of life.

Community Health Worker Team Update

Our Community Health Workers (CHWs) have been hard at work this past month!

  • Conducted 51 social need surveys and navigated 176 cases.
  • Assisted Insurance Enrollment and Payment Support staff with Open Enrollment, hosting events and submitting applications.
  • Attended the Tu Salud Health Fair on November 2nd.

We're grateful for our CHW team's dedication to improving community health and well-being.

H.R. 9495 Update: A Threat to Nonprofits Nationwide

Despite pleas from PANOW and other organizations across the country, the U.S. House of Representatives voted last month to pass legislation that would give the executive branch of the federal government unilateral discretion to revoke the tax-exempt status of any nonprofit organization that it deems to be a "terrorist supporting organization", without due process. This is a direct threat to the operations of nonprofit organizations across the country who provide critical services to Americans. You can find Project Access NOW's letter urging Oregon's U.S. Representatives to vote NO on H.R. 9495 here.

Unfortunately, only 4 of our 6 representatives voted NO, and the bill ultimately passed the House. Now that it has passed the House, H.R. 9495 will now go to the Senate, so the fight is far from over. The bill will soon be assigned to a committee in the Senate, so stay tuned for more updates on this legislation and opportunities for advocacy.
